The first fifty paperbacks of the one hundred and fifty initially ordered, were delivered hot off the press to my Pimlico flat on St Patrick\u2019s Day, 17th<\/sup>March \u2013 Great Aunt Alice and the Black Camel had finally arrived. \u00a0Perfect timing, as it also happened to be Cheltenham Festival week, the pinnacle of the horse racing season, and which this year saw Rachael Blackmore become the first ever lady jockey to win the Champion Hurdle on the Irish trained Honeysuckle \u2013 what better omen for my first ever book!\u00a0 Then Rachael goes on to win the Grand National \u2013 could this be an omen for me to kick on with the sequel?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Televised racing behind closed doors provided a fabulous escape from the confines of Lockdown London, and working on the production of my self-published novel was the perfect occupation, transporting me daily, albeit virtually, \u00a0to Tunisia.\u00a0October 2019 was the last time I rode my camel, and my hopes of being reunited with him this year remain unfulfilled.\u00a0It\u2019s now looking more like Spring 2022 when I can make my pilgrimage to the village of Sabria to be with Zeydoun and my Bedouin friends who look after him.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

But George Spender and Konstantinos Vasdekis of Salamander Street Publishing helped to fill the void, proving themselves to be on a parallel with the desert guides, skilfully showing me how to negotiate pages rather than sand dunes.\u00a0 Just like trekking across the Sahara, it has been a joyful and demanding experience, made all the more so by meeting just the right illustrator for my tale, Mia Buckton, on the No.38 bus.
